Brooklyn U-Haul Truck Live Update: Weng Sor Arrested After Deadly U-Haul Rampage at Bay Ridge

Bay Ridge, Brooklyn (WABC) — Police say suspect rampaged in U-Haul truck in Brooklyn 1 dead, 9 injured I am in detention.

Eyewitness News has learned that during an interrogation in Bay Ridge’s 68th precinct, 62-year-old Weng Sor admitted to hitting at least three to four people while driving a truck.

He explained that he wanted the police to shoot him. Thor released a videotaped statement after waiving rights to Miranda.

Sor is charged with one count of second-degree murder and seven counts of attempted murder. He moved out of the 68th Precinct in Brooklyn on Tuesday night.

Investigators say they have no reason to believe he was motivated by some terrorist ideology.

Detective Chief James Essig said, “We believe Mr. Saw was suffering from a mental health crisis. At this time, there is no link to terrorism.”

Sol told police he saw an “invisible object” coming towards his car and said “enough” before what police later called a “violent rampage” in Brooklyn. said Esig.

Police Commissioner Keychant Sewell has pledged to work with the Brooklyn DA’s office to achieve “means of justice” for victims.

When the police finally stopped Sol near the battery tunnel, he told the cops, “You should have shot me.”

Sor lives in Las Vegas with his mother and has a record of eight arrests for DWI dating back to 2002, including police evasion, battery, resisting arrest, domestic battery, and battery with lethal weapons. He was also suspended in South Carolina on February 5 at a rented U-Haul for reckless driving and possession of marijuana.

In the past, he had to undergo at least one court-ordered mental health evaluation.

His brother also revealed that Sol has a history of mental illness.

Surveillance video showed the U-Haul box truck taking off onto the sidewalk Monday morning.

The nearly hour-long rampage ended near the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel when a NYPD cruiser boxed up the truck.

A total of 10 people were attacked and one of the victims died.

We spoke to eyewitnesses who say it’s just as bad.

Newscopter 7’s Shannon Sohn said of the mayhem left in Brooklyn:

I contacted U-Haul and learned that the truck was rented from their facility in West Palm Beach, FL on February 1st, with a return date of March 3rd.

Monday’s incident coincided with the start of the death penalty phase in Saipov’s trial.
