This page explains how Florida News Times produces its journalism and what readers can hold us to.
Accuracy. We verify factual claims before publication. Where a claim comes from a single source, we say so. Where documents exist — court filings, agency reports, public records — we link to them so readers can check for themselves.
Sourcing. We prefer named, on-the-record sources. We grant anonymity only when a source faces a real risk of retaliation and the information cannot be obtained another way, and the decision is made by an editor, not the writer.
Independence. No advertiser, sponsor or commercial partner has any say over our editorial coverage. Our sales function is separate from our newsroom.
Sponsored and contributed content. Articles that are paid for, or supplied by an outside party with a commercial interest, are labelled Sponsored or Partner Content at the top of the article, filed under the Sponsored category, and carry rel="sponsored" on commercial outbound links.
Use of AI. [State your position — e.g. “We may use AI tools for research assistance, transcription and copy editing. Every published article is written and fact-checked by a human editor who takes responsibility for it.”]
Conflicts of interest. Writers disclose any financial or personal relationship with the subject of a story. Where a conflict cannot be managed, the story is reassigned.
Corrections. We correct errors openly and promptly. See our Corrections Policy.
Reader complaints. If you believe we have fallen short of these standards, write to floridanewstimes@gmail.com. An editor will respond.
